House and Swimming Rules

VOLKSBAD at Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz

Effective for the period from 7 August to 3 October 2026. These rules apply to all visitors of the VOLKSBAD located at the special-use area on „Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz“, and are binding on everyone upon entering the premises.

VOLKSBAD is a temporary project run by the Volksbühne am Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz: a swimming pool right in the heart of the city, open to the public free of charge. We want to make sure that everyone can enjoy the VOLKSBAD and swim safely, so please observe our house and pool rules and comply with instructions from our VOLKSBAD team at all times.

These house and pool rules are a supplement to the General Terms and Conditions of the Volksbühne am Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz. Use of the VOLKSBAD facilities is at your own risk.

2. Scope

These house and pool rules apply to the VOLKSBAD event site on Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz, which includes the pool, the visitor platform, changing cubicles, showers, toilet facilities, entrance area, and the pavilion offering food and drink.

During events (e. g. performances and special programmes) taking place at VOLKSBAD, additional or different rules may apply, which will be announced on site.

3. Opening Hours and Time Slots

Monday: closed
Tuesday: 12:00–20:00
Wednesday: 12:00–20:00
Thursday: 13:00–21:00
Friday: 12:00–20:00
Saturday: 12:00–20:00
Sundays and public holidays: closed

Admission to the VOLKSBAD requires a free time-slot ticket, which can be booked in advance via the Volksbühne website. Remaining tickets will be available at the theatre box office upon arrival.

A time slot is valid for two hours starting with the time specified on your ticket. Admission must take place within the first 20 minutes after start time of your slot; after that, admission for this time slot is no longer granted. The total duration of your pool session is restricted to two hours and ends with the time specified on your ticket. It cannot be extended on the grounds of later entry or waiting times due to queues at the entrance. Should you require more time due to mobility restrictions and disabilities, please inform our admission staff about how much extra time you will need.

Entry to the premises does not grant immediate access to the pool. Please wait until a place is available if the pool is crowded.

Please leave the premises by the end of your time slot to allow other visitors to use the VOLKSBAD. Note: After leaving the premises, you will not be re-admitted on the same time slot ticket.

Coloured wristbands are handed out on busy days to monitor the duration of your visit and must be worn throughout your stay. Upon leaving the VOLKSBAD premises (exit at the wooden fence), your time-slot ticket expires.

All visitors must vacate the pool 15 minutes prior to closing time.

4. Admission

Entry to the VOLKSBAD is free and open to everyone. However, we reserve the right to deny access in the following cases:

  • if a person is clearly under the influence of alcohol or other intoxicating substances;
  • in cases of notifiable infectious diseases or open wounds;
  • if a person is accompanied by a pet, with the exception of assistance dogs and corresponding proof;
  • in the event of intended commercial or other non-standard use of the facility without our prior consent;
  • in the event of non-compliance with the code of conduct of the Volksbühne.

5. Young Children and Supervisory Responsibility

Children under the age of 10 must be accompanied by a responsible adult (aged 16 and over) who is a competent swimmer to visit VOLKSBAD.

The person accompanying the child or children is responsible for their safety and conduct at all times, including at the poolside and in the sanitary areas.

Children aged 10 and over may visit VOLKSBAD unattended, provided they are competent swimmers. It is the responsibility of the parents or legal guardians to assess the child’s swimming ability.

Our lifeguards will supervise swimming activities in and around the pool, but cannot replace the duty of supervision required of accompanying adults.

Babies and toddlers are welcome at the VOLKSBAD in the company of their parents. However, they are not allowed in the pool as there are no special facilities provided for this age group (no children’s pool). Sunshades and pram and buggy parking is very limited, and parents must bring their own equipment necessary for baby care. The visit is entirely at the responsibility of the parents or legal guardians; VOLKSBAD operator accepts no liability.

6. Swimming in the Pool

The maximum depth of the VOLKSBAD pool is 1.30m deep end. For safety reasons, non-swimmers may only enter the pool up to the point where the water reaches no higher than their chest (body height of approx. 1.60m) unless they are accompanied by a competent swimmer. Feel free to speak to our lifeguards for advice if you’re unsure.

The pool can accommodate a maximum of 50 people at any one time. Once this number has been reached, you’ll need to wait until space is available again.

Please use the steps provided to access to the pool. This is not a dive pool, jumping from the edge of the pool is not permitted due to shallow water.

  • Do not duck or push other swimmers into the water.
  • Running around the pool and climbing on or over railings, ladders, or containers is hazardous and prohibited.
  • Swimming aids and inflatable toys may only be used with the permission of the lifeguard.

The visitor platform and infrastructure at VOLKSBAD are temporary structures installed on public street space specifically for the duration of this swimming season. As with this type of construction, there may be joints, edges, and unevenness in the flooring. Move carefully and at a reasonable pace on the platform and walkways, especially when barefoot.

The area around the pool, as well as the showers and their surroundings, may be slippery. Please walk carefully and take care of others.

A staff-operated platform lift is available to access the visitor platform. If you need to use the lift, please let the staff at the entrance know.

For hygiene reasons, personal wheelchairs that have been used outdoors cannot be taken onto the pool platform. A VOLKSBAD wheelchair and a walker are available for use while on the pool platform.

7. Hygiene and Swimwear

Please shower before using the pool, it’s mandatory. All swimmers must wear clean, appropriate swimwear. For hygiene reasons, streetwear in the pool area and outdoor shoes on the barefoot decking around the pool are not to be worn.

8. Weather Conditions

  • Glass bottles and other dangerous or breakable items are not to be brought or used due to the risk of injury.
  • No food or drinks next to or near the pool; drinks and fries can be bought at the pavilion by the Volksbühne.
  • The consumption of drugs and alcohol is not permitted at the VOLKSBAD.
  • Pets must stay at home. Assistance dogs with appropriate certification are allowed.
  • Open fires and barbecuing are not permitted anywhere on the premises.
  • In case of emergency, please inform the staff / lifeguards immediately.
  • Emergency routes and exits must be kept clear at all times.
  • Audible playing of music, videos, and the use of loudspeakers are not permitted.

9. Additional Rules

10. Photography and Filming

Taking photos or filming other people without their consent is not permitted at VOLKSBAD. If you are being photographed or filmed without your permission, please speak to the VOLKSBAD team immediately.

The use or wearing of spy glasses with an integrated camera is not allowed.

11. Respectful Conduct

At VOLKSBAD, the principles of the Volksbühne’s code of conduct apply: other people must be treated with respect and their dignity must be upheld at all times. Insults, harassment, discrimination, threats, and violence will not be tolerated.

If you notice a violation of the Volksbühne’s code of conduct, please speak to the VOLKSBAD staff.

12. Management’s Rights

The VOLKSBAD team exercises the management’s rights of the Volksbühne am Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz. Please treat our team with respect – they are here to ensure everyone has a fun but safe time. Instructions and requests from the team must be followed. Non-compliance with the house and pool rules, and putting other people at risk, may result in exclusion of violators from the pool and the premises. Serious or repeated offences may result in a temporary or permanent ban from the VOLKSBAD. There is no entitlement to readmission in such cases.

There is no entitlement to use the facilities or to any other form of compensation should the VOLKSBAD be closed. The sale or commercial distribution of free time-slot tickets is not permitted and may result in exclusion from the pool and a ban from entering the premises.

13. Liability

At VOLKSBAD, the House and Pool Rules stated above, as well as the General Terms and Conditions of the Volksbühne am Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz apply. Use of VOLKSBAD and its facilities is at your own risk. The Volksbühne accepts no liability for any valuables you bring with you; we recommend that you do not leave any items of value unattended.

A limited number of lockers are available on site (coin deposit €1/€2); no liability is accepted for their contents. After closing time, lockers will be opened and their content will be treated as lost property.

14. Effective Date

These House and Pool Rules come into effect on 7 August 2026 and apply for the duration of VOLKSBAD operations, ending no later than 3 October 2026.
