Gob Squad are calling for a revolution. The first steps have been taken: the Volksbühne am Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz has been stormed and is now the revolutionaries’ headquarters. Access to props and therefore weapons, explosives and special effects has been secured. The box office and foyer have been occupied. All without bloodshed so far...
Gob Squad want to electrify the masses and take advantage of the capabilities of a large media production: cameras, live links, big screens, wireless transmitters and very long cables. Gob Squad will broadcast the revolution out into the world. This revolution will be live. But where are the masses? Where are the people? Somebody mentioned 50,000 to 60,000 extras?
Gob Squad dust off revolutions from the archives of history and place them back in the present, right in the middle of our capitalist reality. With the help of the audience as well as passers-by, Gob Squad will re-enact revolutionary actions and historic moments in an attempt to make history and to be part of it, contradictions included. “We’re losing the thread, leaving the trail, becoming hopelessly entangled in the Western labyrinth of affluence. We need to think differently, to redefine roles. All this live before the camera! Always with a different cast. Who can be what today or at least substitute somebody else? We ponder… The same questions come up again and again: Who are we? What do we want? What are we willing to do to achieve it?” Gob Squad.
